PSG eye Werder Bremens German-Ivorian defender Karim Coulibaly in big-money move

Paris Saint-Germain are exploring a move for German-Ivorian centre-back Karim Coulibaly from Werder Bremen as they assess defensive options ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.

Coulibaly, a 19-year-old left-footed central defender, has rapidly emerged as one of the Bundesliga clubs most valuable assets, with his market value rising to 28m by late May 2026.

Born in Oldenburg and standing at 1.91m, Coulibaly combines German and Ivorian nationality and profiles as a physically imposing defender, an attribute that is likely to appeal to PSG as they look to add height and balance on the left side of their back line.

Coulibaly only stepped up from Werder Bremens under-19s to the first-team squad in July 2025, underlining the speed of his progression from youth prospect to senior player in Germanys top flight.

His switch to Bremens academy from Hamburger SVs under-19 side in 2024 marked a key step in his development, with subsequent performances helping to drive a sharp rise in his valuation over the 2025-26 campaign.

The interest from PSG would represent Coulibalys first potential move outside Germany, following earlier spells in the youth set-ups at Hamburger SV and other Hamburg-based clubs before his breakthrough in Bremen.

No agreement has been reached between the clubs, and the defender remains on Werder Bremens books as discussions around his future continue.
