Serge Atakayi: Finland and DR Congo winger leaves Mikkelin

Finland and DR Congo winger Serge Atakayi has left Mikkelin and is now without a club after completing his departure from the Ykkosliiga side on 21 August 2026.

The 27-year-old right winger joined Mikkelin from Kokkolan PV on 31 March 2026. His move to the Finnish club followed a free transfer from FC KTP to Kokkolan PV in February 2025.

Atakayi began his senior career with FF Jaro before moving to Rangers Under-20s in 2016. He later spent time with Rangers B and SJK Seinajoki, with loan spells at TPS and St Patrick’s Athletic forming part of his career.

He also played for Waterford during the 2023 season on loan from St Patrick’s. The winger returned to St Patrick’s later that year before leaving the Irish club and subsequently joining FC KTP in August 2024.

Atakayi has recorded 53 appearances, four goals and six assists in the Veikkausliiga. In the Ykkosliiga, he has made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and providing five assists. His record also includes 23 Premier Division appearances, in which he scored four goals and supplied one assist.

The Kinshasa-born player stands 1.71m tall and is listed as a right-footed attacker. His career has included football in Finland, Scotland and Ireland, with his most recent spell coming in Finland’s second-tier Ykkosliiga.

Atakayi’s departure leaves him unattached after his spell with Mikkelin ended on 21 August 2026.
