PSG raise Ibrahim Mbaye price as Liverpool transfer talks stall
Liverpool’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye has hit a stumbling block, with the French club demanding between €70m and €80m for the Senegalese teenager.
The Reds have already made significant progress in their efforts to sign the 18-year-old, who has reportedly been convinced by Liverpool’s proposal of a five-year contract.
Mbaye is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer after facing strong competition for opportunities at PSG.
However, negotiations between Liverpool and the French champions remain unresolved because of the gap between their respective valuations of the player.
According to the latest reports from RMC Sport, PSG are seeking a fee of between €70m and €80m to allow Mbaye to leave the club. The Senegal international still has two years remaining on his contract with the Parisian side, giving PSG a strong position in discussions over his future.
Liverpool are not prepared to meet the French club’s current asking price.
The Premier League club value Mbaye at approximately €50m and have made it clear that they do not want to go beyond €60m to complete the transfer. That difference in valuation has become the main obstacle standing in the way of a deal.
Despite Liverpool having an agreement in place with the young forward over personal terms, the clubs have yet to find common ground on the transfer fee.
The situation has left the negotiations at a delicate stage, with both sides facing pressure to reconsider their respective positions. Liverpool are looking for a financially acceptable agreement that would allow them to bring Mbaye to England without disrupting their budget.
PSG, meanwhile, remain in control of the situation as they continue to determine the conditions under which the Senegalese player could leave the club.
With only days left before the summer transfer window closes, time is becoming increasingly important for both sides.
Liverpool must decide whether to improve their offer, while PSG will have to determine whether their €70m-€80m valuation can be maintained during the remaining days of the window.
For now, the two clubs remain apart on the financial terms, despite Liverpool’s progress in convincing Mbaye to make the move.
The teenager’s preference for a switch to the English league has given Liverpool encouragement, but the disagreement over the transfer fee means the proposed move is still far from complete.
Talks are continuing as Liverpool seek a solution that meets their valuation, while PSG retain control of the negotiations and Mbaye’s contract situation.
