Wydad’s pre-season struggles continue with seventh friendly draw

Wydad Athletic Club’s preparations for the new season have raised concerns after the Moroccan giants were held to another draw, this time against Hassania Agadir on Friday.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in Agadir, extending Wydad’s run of inconclusive results during a pre-season programme designed to assess the squad’s readiness for the upcoming campaign.

Wydad held again in Agadir

Hassania Agadir took the lead through Abdelali Ait Braim before Wydad responded with an equaliser from Walid Nassi.

Neither side could find a winning goal as the match ended 1-1, giving Wydad another draw in their preparations.

The fixture was the seventh friendly played by Wydad as part of their build-up to the new season, with the coaching staff continuing to evaluate their players and determine the strongest options for the competitive campaign.

Wydad’s mixed results in Casablanca

Wydad began their pre-season programme in Casablanca with a 1-0 victory over Ittihad Tanger.

They were then held to a goalless draw by Renaissance Zemamra before playing out another 1-1 draw against Difaa El Jadida.

The results have given the coaching staff plenty to assess ahead of the start of the season, although the lack of consistent victories remains a concern.

Five-goal win fails to change Wydad’s fortunes

During their training camp in Agadir, Wydad recorded their biggest win of the pre-season by defeating Ittihad Taroudant 5-0.

However, the result was followed by two 1-1 draws against Hassania Agadir, including Friday’s encounter.

Wydad also drew 1-1 with Ittihad Ait Melloul last Wednesday in their final friendly of the preparation programme.

Bolivian international Ramiro Vaca scored Wydad’s goal in that match, but the result continued a pattern of draws that has characterised much of the club’s pre-season.

Wydad still searching for top-level readiness

With the new season approaching, Wydad will hope the series of friendly matches has provided the technical staff with enough information to improve the team’s performance.

Despite the five-goal victory over Ittihad Taroudant, the Red team have struggled to produce decisive results consistently, leaving them with work to do before the competitive campaign begins.
