Sofiane Boufal confirms Le Havre departure
Sofiane Boufal has officially confirmed his departure from Le Havre AC, announcing the news on his Instagram account this Wednesday shortly after helping the Normandy club secure their Ligue 1 survival.
The Moroccan international, who has earned 46 caps and scored eight goals for his country, brought an end to his short but impactful spell in France following his move last winter.
Strong Second-Half Season in Ligue 1
Boufal joined Le Havre on a free transfer after leaving Union Saint-Gilloise, using the move as an opportunity to regain consistent playing time at a high level.
The 32-year-old, who has also previously played for Lille OSC and Angers SCO, quickly became an important figure in Didier Digard’s squad during the second half of the season.
He featured in all 17 Ligue 1 matches in the return phase, starting 13 of them, while contributing one goal and four assists as Le Havre battled to retain their top-flight status.
Return to Form and World Cup Hope
Boufal’s performances marked a positive turnaround in his career, as he re-established himself as a regular starter after a period of uncertainty.
His resurgence has also caught the attention of Morocco national team selectors, with coach Mohamed Ouahbi including him in the preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The call-up comes nearly two and a half years after his last appearance for the Atlas Lions, offering him a potential route back into the international setup ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
Successful Short Spell Comes to an End
Despite its short duration, Boufal’s time at Le Havre is being viewed as a successful stint for both player and club, with his creativity and experience playing a key role in their survival campaign.
As he prepares for his next career move, attention now turns to whether his strong form will be enough to secure a place in Morocco’s final World Cup squad.
