Fiorentina sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds on loan

Italy and Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Gnonto has joined Fiorentina from Leeds on loan, with the Serie A club paying a €1m loan fee for the 22-year-old.

The move takes Gnonto from the Premier League to Italy and brings him to a Fiorentina side competing in Serie A. The loan is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027.

Gnonto, who plays primarily on the right wing and is right-footed, joined Leeds from Swiss club FC Zurich in September 2022 for €4.5m. He spent four seasons with the English club before switching to Fiorentina.

His time at Leeds included the club’s 2024-25 Championship-winning campaign, when Leeds secured the English second-tier title. Gnonto had previously won the Swiss championship with FC Zurich in the 2021-22 season.

The forward began his development in Italy with Inter, progressing through the club’s youth teams before moving to Switzerland. He joined FC Zurich from Inter’s Under-19 side on a free transfer in July 2020 and helped the club win the Swiss title two years later.

Born in Verbania on 5 November 2003, Gnonto stands 1.70m tall and has represented both Italy and Ivory Coast in his listed nationalities. His career has therefore taken him from Inter’s youth set-up to Switzerland, England and now Serie A.

The transfer comes at the start of the 2026-27 season. Gnonto had been included in Leeds’ campaign, but had made no appearances in the Premier League or EFL Cup before moving to Fiorentina.

He leaves Leeds with the club having paid €4.5m to sign him from FC Zurich in 2022, following his earlier free transfer from Inter’s Under-19 team. His highest recorded market value is €22m, while his current valuation is €16m.

At Fiorentina, Gnonto joins on a deal that formally runs through the end of June 2027, when the recorded loan arrangement concludes and he is due to return to Leeds. The transfer gives him a return to Italian football after four years in England and Switzerland.

Gnonto has completed a loan move from Leeds to Fiorentina for €1m.
