Paco Jemez begins Raja Casablanca era with praise for club and fans

New Raja Casablanca coach Paco Jemez says he already had a strong understanding of the Moroccan club and its supporters before agreeing to take charge of the Green Eagles.

The Spanish coach was officially presented by Raja’s management on Tuesday during a press conference at the club’s academy in Bouskoura.

Jemez succeeds Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, who resigned from his position before the club moved to appoint the experienced Spaniard.

Speaking at his unveiling, Jemez highlighted his previous knowledge of Raja and its passionate fan base.

“I knew Raja, its history and its fans very well before signing with them.”

Jemez takes over after Nabi resignation

Raja announced Jemez’s appointment on Monday, confirming the 54-year-old as Nabi’s successor.

The Spaniard arrives with extensive coaching experience, particularly in Spain, where he has managed several clubs in La Liga.

His previous assignments include Rayo Vallecano, Las Palmas and Granada, giving him considerable experience of managing teams at the highest level of Spanish football.

Experience beyond Spain

Jemez has also worked outside Spain during his coaching career, gaining experience in Mexico and Iran.

More recently, he was involved in the English Premier League as an assistant coach at West Ham United.

His varied coaching background will now be put to the test in Morocco as he begins his first spell in charge of Raja Casablanca, one of the country’s most prominent clubs.
