Uganda defender Aziz Kayondo of Slovan Liberec is being linked with a summer move to Austrian Bundesliga side Rapid Vienna as speculation grows over the 23-year-old’s future in the Czech game.
The left-back, who plays for Liberec in the Czech Chance Liga, is the subject of interest from Rapid according to transfer data, with the move currently rated as uncertain – the reported probability of a deal is listed as “?”. Key contractual details, including the length of his agreement in Liberec and any expiry date, are not publicly confirmed, leaving open the possibility that he could move on favourable terms or even run down his deal towards a potential free-agent scenario in the future.
Kayondo, valued at €1.00m on Transfermarkt, has seen his stock rise steadily in recent seasons. Standing at 1.75m and naturally left-footed, he operates primarily as a defender at left-back, a profile that would fit Rapid Vienna’s long-standing preference for athletic full-backs capable of contributing in both halves of the pitch. Born on 6 October 2002 in Kalungu, he represents Uganda at international level and is regarded as one of the more promising East African defenders currently playing in Europe.
The Slovan Liberec number 27 has been a regular presence in the Czech top flight since his arrival at the club, offering defensive balance on the flank. According to previously reported data, he joined Liberec in July 2024 and has also established himself on the international scene with Uganda, where he has already collected a significant number of caps and chipped in with goals from defence.
His recent form has underpinned the interest. In a recent league outing for Slovan Liberec – a tight encounter in the Chance Liga in the spring of 2026 – Kayondo completed the full 90 minutes in a narrow win, contributing to a clean sheet and featuring prominently in defensive duels and build-up play from the left side. Performances of that kind have strengthened the feeling among observers that he is ready for a step into a higher-profile league such as Austria’s Bundesliga.
For Rapid, the opportunity to target a player with international experience and a €1.00m market valuation may be viewed as a cost-effective way to reinforce their back line ahead of the new season. With no clear information in the public domain on when Kayondo’s Liberec contract is due to expire, it is unclear whether the Austrian club would need to pay a transfer fee now or could look ahead to a future window in which he might be closer to free-agent status.
Kayondo’s versatility within his role – a modern full-back capable of overlapping runs and defensive discipline – has already attracted attention beyond the Czech Republic. Russian club Spartak Moscow were previously credited with concrete interest in the Ugandan, with reports stating Liberec held him under contract until the summer of 2028 at that time. His consistent valuation at around €1m reflects both his development curve and the expectation that he can still progress further in a more competitive environment.
Any move to Rapid Vienna would add another chapter to a career that has already taken Kayondo from Uganda to central Europe and into senior international football. For now, the transfer remains at the rumour stage, with no confirmation of talks between the clubs and no indication of a medical or agreement being close.
If the switch does materialise, however, it would offer the Ugandan left-back a platform in a league with regular European competition exposure, a step that could sharpen his defensive craft, raise his profile on the continent and potentially position him for an even bigger move later in his career.
