Anderlecht beat competition to sign Morocco star Taoufik Ben Tayeb until 2030
Moroccan striker Taoufik Ben Tayeb has joined Belgian giants Anderlecht in a deal worth €4.5m including bonuses, completing a major move after his prolific season in France.
The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Belgian club until 2030 after leaving Moroccan side Union Touarga.
Anderlecht officially confirmed the transfer on Friday, with Ben Tayeb opting for the club’s sporting project despite reportedly receiving more lucrative financial offers elsewhere.
Moroccan striker chooses Anderlecht project
Ben Tayeb was born in Casablanca in January 2004 and began his professional career with Union Touarga in 2022.
He subsequently moved to France, where he spent time on loan with Rodez before joining Troyes.
His performances during the 2025-26 campaign significantly raised his profile, particularly after helping Troyes secure promotion to the French top flight.
The Moroccan forward scored 20 goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions, including 18 goals in the league.
Prolific season earns European move
Ben Tayeb’s goalscoring form saw him finish as the leading scorer in France’s second division and attracted interest from several clubs.
Despite receiving offers that would have provided greater financial rewards, the striker reportedly chose Anderlecht because of the club’s sporting plans.
The move represents his third European experience after his spells in the French second tier and gives him the opportunity to continue his development at one of Belgium’s most prominent clubs.
Morocco international hopes remain
Ben Tayeb’s breakthrough season also brought him closer to the Moroccan national-team picture.
However, he was not selected in Morocco’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup, having only made the extended list.
His sole appearance for the Atlas Lions came in a friendly against Burundi, with Morocco winning the match 5-0.
The move to Anderlecht now gives the young striker another platform to establish himself in European football and strengthen his case for a more regular role with Morocco.
