Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr emerges as Everton transfer option

Everton are considering a move for Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr after Idrissa Gueye left the club for Saudi Arabia at the end of his contract, according to Afrik-Foot information.

Gueye, 36, has joined Al Diriyah after completing his Everton deal and has already made his debut for the Saudi Arabian club. The Senegal international made 236 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists during his time at Goodison Park.

Everton are now assessing Sarr as a possible addition to their midfield. The 23-year-old is also a Senegal international, with 42 caps and four goals, and could be approaching a significant decision over his future at Tottenham.

Sarr was one of the few players to emerge with credit from Tottenham’s campaign last season. He made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and registering four assists.

However, competition for places in the Spurs midfield has increased in recent weeks. Tottenham have signed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a combined fee of more than 215 million euros during this transfer window.

That spending could affect Sarr’s position in manager Roberto De Zerbi’s preferred midfield options. Everton are interested in taking advantage of that uncertainty, although Sarr would not be a direct replacement for Gueye.

The two players have different styles and roles. Everton have already signed Christian Nørgaard from Arsenal to fill the more defensive position left by Gueye, while Sarr would offer greater creativity and energy in midfield.

A move to Everton could also give Sarr the chance to link up with fellow Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye. Ndiaye is, however, attracting considerable interest from other clubs during the current transfer window.

Everton are not the only club monitoring Sarr’s situation. Nottingham Forest are also interested as they look for a successor to Elliot Anderson.

Brentford and Aston Villa are understood to be following the midfielder as well, while Galatasaray and Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli have also shown an interest, in line with previous reports in the English press.

Tottenham are asking for 25 million euros plus bonuses to sell Sarr. The former Metz player is under contract with Spurs until June 2030, and his annual salary is estimated at 4 million euros.

The Senegal international’s future is therefore expected to become one of the stories to follow during the final two weeks of the transfer window in England.
