Cameroon’s Carlos Baleba closes in on Manchester United move in £70m deal
Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba is set to join Manchester United after the Premier League club reached a verbal agreement with Brighton over a deal worth £65m plus £5m in add-ons.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that the agreement had been reached after Manchester United improved on an earlier £65m offer that had been rejected.
Baleba is now expected to undergo a medical over the weekend before completing his move to Old Trafford.
Baleba wanted Manchester United move
Romano said the Cameroon international is preparing to join the club he wanted, with an agreement between Manchester United and Brighton now in place.
“Breaking news… Brighton player Carlos Baleba will move to Manchester United… The deal is done.”
He added: “There is already a verbal agreement between the two clubs. An improved offer was sent today after the previous offer of £65 million was rejected, and the player is preparing to join the only club he wanted.”
The transfer expert later confirmed the financial details of the proposed move.
“The value of Carlos Baleba’s transfer deal to Manchester United is £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons.”
Medical booked for weekend
The Cameroon midfielder has been given permission to leave Brighton as he prepares for the next stage of the transfer.
Manchester United have reportedly booked a medical appointment for Baleba over the weekend, with the examination expected to be the final major step before the transfer is completed.
Romano concluded: “The Cameroonian midfielder has been granted permission to travel from Brighton, where Manchester United have booked a medical appointment for him over the weekend.”
Major move for Cameroon star
If completed, the transfer will represent a significant step in Baleba’s career and another major move for an African player to one of England’s biggest clubs.
The midfielder has developed into an important player at Brighton and is now on the verge of joining Manchester United in a deal that could ultimately reach £70m if all the agreed add-ons are achieved.
With the clubs having reached a verbal agreement and the medical scheduled, Baleba’s move to Old Trafford is now close to completion.
