Gedson Fernandes has been linked with a surprise return to Galatasaray, with reports in Russia and Türkiye suggesting the Istanbul club are exploring a move for the Spartak Moscow midfielder.
Data from Transfermarkt lists the probability of a transfer at 8%, indicating early-stage interest rather than an advanced negotiation, but the 26-year-old’s situation is drawing attention given his €20.00m market value and lack of disclosed contract end date at Spartak, which leaves open the possibility of a future free-agent scenario.
Fernandes, a central midfielder who prefers his right foot, only joined Spartak Moscow from Beşiktaş and is currently valued at the highest point of his career. His previous spell at Galatasaray came on loan from Benfica in the 2020-21 season, after earlier stints with Tottenham Hotspur, Çaykur Rizespor and a long development pathway through Benfica’s youth, U15, U17, U19, B team and senior side.
The rumoured move would take him from Russia’s Premier Liga back to the Süper Lig, where he rebuilt his reputation first at Rizespor and then at Beşiktaş, earning successive market value rises up to €18m before the switch to Spartak saw that figure rise again to €20m in September 2025.
Born in São Tomé on 9 January 1999 and holding nationalities with Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe, Fernandes has experience across top European leagues, including the Premier League with Spurs and Portugal’s Primeira Liga with Benfica. His shirt number at Spartak is 83, mirroring his social media handle on Instagram.
With only an 8% likelihood currently attributed to the move and no contract expiry publicly stated, the situation remains speculative. Even so, another chapter at Galatasaray could offer Fernandes the chance to become a long-term midfield reference in Istanbul and redefine the next phase of his career if the interest eventually turns into a concrete deal.
