Mali win AES Games final on penalties against Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso made the stronger start and took the lead in the eighth minute through Cheikh Fatawou Ouattara. The Etalons held on to their advantage until half-time, but Mali levelled 13 minutes after the restart when Ismael Kamissoko scored in the 58th minute.

Neither side could find a winning goal during the remainder of normal time, sending the final to a penalty shootout. Mali were more accurate from the spot to claim a 4-2 victory and lift the trophy.

The tournament’s individual awards included a double success for Mali. Abdoul Razak Coulibaly was named best goalkeeper, while Issaka Kone received the award for best player.

Niang Yaya finished as the competition’s leading scorer with five goals.
