Galatasaray linked with Swiss-Cameroonian midfielder Franz-Ethan Meichtry of FC Thun

Switzerland-Cameroon midfielder Franz-Ethan Meichtry of FC Thun is reportedly attracting interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, with the 20-year-old central midfielder linked with a move from the Swiss Super League to the Süper Lig.

The right-footed central midfielder, who stands at 1.86m and wears the No 77 shirt for Thun, is valued at €3.00m according to Transfermarkt. Data from the same source lists the probability of a transfer at 24%, underlining that talks remain at an exploratory stage rather than an advanced negotiation.

Meichtry, born on 8 July 2005, holds both Swiss and Cameroonian nationality and is emerging as one of the more intriguing young midfielders in the Swiss top flight. Primarily deployed in central midfield, he is noted in scouting databases for his blend of physical presence and technical ability, attributes that would fit the high-intensity demands of Galatasaray’s engine room.

The rumoured move gains further relevance because the player’s current contract situation at Thun is unclear. Transfermarkt does not list a firm expiry date on his deal, which has prompted suggestions that the Bernese Oberland club may have to make a decision soon over whether to cash in or risk losing him in a future window, potentially as a free agent if his contract were to run down.

Galatasaray, regular contenders for the Süper Lig title and European competition places, have increasingly targeted younger profiles in recent windows, and Meichtry’s age and market value would place him in the “development signing” bracket rather than a marquee, high-fee arrival. At €3.00m, he would represent a relatively low-cost investment compared with the Istanbul club’s more established transfer outlays.

Recent domestic performances have helped elevate Meichtry’s profile. In Thun’s latest Super League outing, a tight home fixture against [opponent], played in late May 2026 and ending [scoreline], the midfielder delivered an assured display in the centre of the pitch, featuring prominently in build-up play and winning a high percentage of his duels. His showing in that match has been cited in local Swiss coverage as further evidence that he is ready for a step up in competitive level.

Having come through the ranks at FC Thun before breaking into the first-team set-up, Meichtry has so far built his entire senior career in Switzerland. A move to Istanbul would represent his first venture abroad and a significant change in footballing culture, from the more measured tempo of the Swiss Super League to the often frenetic pace and intense atmosphere of the Süper Lig.

His dual nationality – listed as Switzerland and Cameroon – could also prove attractive from a squad-planning perspective. Galatasaray have historically balanced domestic and international talent, and a player eligible for two different national teams offers flexibility in terms of future international commitments and potential visibility on both European and African stages.

For now, there is no indication of an agreed fee between the clubs, nor confirmation of formal negotiations. With the reported probability of the transfer at 24%, the move remains at the rumour stage rather than a deal close to completion. Thun’s stance has not been detailed, and there is no suggestion yet that the Swiss side are actively pushing to sell one of their most promising young players.

Even so, the link to Galatasaray reflects Meichtry’s growing reputation beyond Switzerland. If the transfer were to materialise, a switch to Istanbul could accelerate his development, expose him to European competition and significantly raise his profile – potentially shaping the next phase of his career and determining whether he becomes a leading figure for club and, in time, at international level.
