Fagrie Lakay: Cleopatra FC and South Africa forward linked with Al-Ahli move in Libya

South African centre-forward Fagrie Lakay of Cleopatra FC is being linked with a move to Libyan Premier League side Al-Ahli as the 29-year-old attracts interest following a productive spell in Egyptian football.

Lakay, who was born in Cape Town and plays primarily through the middle, has established himself in the Egyptian Premier League with 111 appearances, scoring 31 goals and contributing 15 assists. His form for Cleopatra and former club Pyramids FC has made him a recognised figure on the North African circuit, and Al-Ahli are understood to be exploring the possibility of adding his experience to their attack.

Cleopatra signed Lakay permanently in July 2025 after an initial loan from Pyramids earlier in the 2024-25 season, during which time he enhanced his reputation in domestic and continental competition. He reached a career-high market valuation of 1.5 million in May 2026, reflecting his status as a seasoned forward at this stage of his career.

At Pyramids, Lakay was part of the squad that lifted the CAF Champions League in 2024-25, following on from an Egyptian Cup triumph the previous season. That exposure to high-pressure knockout football is thought to be a key attraction for any potential suitor.

Lakays contract length at Cleopatra has not been publicly disclosed, leaving the structure of any prospective deal with Al-Ahli unclear. For now, he remains on the books of the Egyptian club as they weigh up interest in one of their most experienced attacking options.
