Al Ahly complete signing of Algeria striker Monsef Bakrar from Dinamo Zagreb on three-year deal

Al Ahly have confirmed the signing of Algeria forward Monsef Bakrar from Dinamo Zagreb on a three-year contract, completing a deal that makes him the Egyptian champions’ fourth recruit of the summer.

The Cairo club announced on Tuesday that all formalities had been finalised, with Bakrar successfully passing his medical before putting pen to paper on his move to Al Ahly.

The 23-year-old joins from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, whom he joined only last summer from Major League Soccer club New York City FC on a contract that was due to run until 2028.

Although Al Ahly did not disclose the financial details of the transfer, reports in Croatia stated that the agreement is worth an initial €3m, potentially rising to €4m if performance-related bonuses are met.

As part of the deal, Dinamo Zagreb are also understood to have secured a 10% sell-on clause, entitling the Croatian club to a share of any future transfer fee should Bakrar be sold on by Al Ahly.

Earlier this summer, FilGoal.com reported that Al Ahly had reached an agreement in principle with Dinamo Zagreb for Bakrar’s services, with Tuesday’s announcement confirming the completion of the move.

Fourth summer arrival for Al Ahly

Bakrar becomes Al Ahly’s fourth new signing of the current transfer window, following the arrivals of Ali Mahmoud and Aqtay Abdallah from Enppi, and Morocco forward Sofiane Benjeddi from Maghreb Fes.

The addition of Bakrar further strengthens Al Ahly’s attacking options as they prepare for the new domestic campaign and their continental commitments.

Last season, Bakrar featured in 42 matches in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists, underlining the productivity that attracted Al Ahly to bring him to Cairo.

The Algerian’s move continues his rapid progression through different leagues, having moved from New York City FC to Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of last year before now switching to one of Africa’s most successful clubs.
