Zamalek call for accountability after Al Ahly’s record women’s derby win

Zamalek’s media director Maher Ghareeb has called on the Egyptian Football Association to hold those responsible to account after Al Ahly beat Zamalek 6-0 in the Egyptian Women’s League.

The result came in the second round of the competition and was Al Ahly’s biggest victory over Zamalek in the history of the fixture.

Ghazal Nadin scored a hat-trick for Al Ahly, with Awa Kesset adding two goals and Nour Youssef completing the scoring. The match was played at Zamalek Club.

Ghareeb said Zamalek had expected a stronger start to its women’s football programme but believed the team could improve in the coming weeks.

“Our planning for women’s football was aimed at producing a better performance than we showed in the first two matches, but some circumstances led to that,” Ghareeb told Al Nahar TV.

“I believe the coming period will be better.”

Ghareeb also referred to an incident during the derby involving comments made by an administrator, saying the words should not have been used at a sporting venue.

“There was an incident in the Zamalek and Al Ahly match because of words spoken by one of the administrators which should not have been said in sports stadiums,” he added.

“But the issue was resolved by Shady Mohamed and Hazem Emam. The Football Association must hold accountable whoever made the mistake, whether that person was from Al Ahly or Zamalek.”

The defeat extended Zamalek’s poor record in the fixture. They have never beaten Al Ahly, who have now won four of the meetings, while one match has ended in a draw.

Masar lead the league table with six points, ahead of Al Ahly, Wadi Degla, Al Masry, ZED, El Mokawloon and National Bank on goal difference.
