Monaco move top of Ligue 1 after beating Lens to maintain unbeaten start

Monaco moved to the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-1 victory over Lens in the fifth round of the season, extending their unbeaten run in domestic and European competition.

Paris Brunner opened the scoring for Monaco in the 32nd minute, finishing from inside the penalty area.

Lens levelled 12 minutes into the second half when Mathieu Udol headed the ball past the Monaco defence in the 57th minute.

The visitors regained the lead in the 84th minute after Lens defender Jonathan Gradit headed into his own net.

The result takes Monaco to 13 points, placing them first in the Ligue 1 table. Lens remain on four points in 10th position.

Monaco have now won six matches in all competitions this season and drawn one.

The team, managed by Brazilian coach Filipe Luis, also have the second-best defensive record in the league, having conceded three goals.
