England international Ivan Toney says he is looking forward to Al Ahli’s meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Intercontinental Cup.
Al Ahli will visit Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon for the final of the Three Continents Cup, part of the Intercontinental Cup.
Toney expects a demanding contest against a side he says has built a reputation for scoring heavily and winning regularly.
“I am very excited to face Sundowns in Pretoria,” Toney told reporters. “I have heard about this team and I know they score a lot of goals and win most of their matches, but that makes me even more excited to play against them.”
The striker, who joined Al Ahli, also outlined his hopes of helping his side overcome Sundowns’ defence and secure victory.
“I hope we can break through their defence, score goals and win the match,” he added. “I started the season well and I hope to continue scoring and helping the team.”
Toney currently leads the Saudi league’s scoring chart with 10 goals this season.
Al Ahli began their campaign in the competition with a 1-0 victory over New Zealand side Auckland FC on 26 August.
Mamelodi Sundowns entered the tournament as the winners of the African Champions League.
