Ex-Egypt captain Ahmed Shobair reveals his dream club for son Mostafa
Former Al Ahly SC star and current media personality Ahmed Shobair has spoken openly about the future of his son, Mostafa Shobair, revealing the club he dreams of seeing him represent one day.
Mostafa, who currently features for Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, has enjoyed a strong run of performances in recent weeks. His displays have convinced head coach Jess Thorup to rotate him regularly with first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy across several matches.
Reports suggest the Danish manager is considering handing Mostafa further opportunities in upcoming Egyptian Premier League fixtures to keep him sharp, both technically and physically.
The move comes as the Cairo giants prepare for a highly anticipated African showdown against Espérance Sportive de Tunis in mid-March, when the two sides meet in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
While Mostafa has recently featured in continental competition, El Shenawy has largely handled domestic league duties. Thorup appears committed to a structured rotation policy between the two shot-stoppers, at least for the time being, before settling on a permanent first choice based on consistency and statistical output.
Al Ahly currently sit fourth in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 33 points, trailing leaders Ceramica Cleopatra FC by two points, while Zamalek SC and Pyramids FC occupy second and third place respectively.
Speaking during his appearance on an Italian league analysis programme, Ahmed Shobeir did not hesitate when asked about his son’s future ambitions. He expressed his wish to see Mostafa one day wear the jersey of English giants Manchester United.
The Premier League side, currently rebuilding, have struggled to replicate the stability they once enjoyed between the posts during the eras of legendary goalkeepers such as Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar and David de Gea.
United presently sit fifth in the Premier League table with 45 points and still have a game in hand against Everton FC. Victory in that fixture could lift them into fourth place under interim manager Michael Carrick.
