The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has opened talks with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda over a possible international friendly during the September FIFA window.

Egypt are considering one of the three African nations as they seek to arrange a friendly match during the upcoming international break, according to reports emerging on Friday.

The EFA is understood to be assessing its options before deciding on an opponent, with Ghana among the countries being considered.

A meeting between Egypt and Ghana would bring together two of Africa’s most established football nations and could provide both sides with valuable preparation ahead of their respective international commitments.

The September-October FIFA international window is scheduled to run from 21 September to 6 October 2026, giving national teams an extended period in which to organise competitive and friendly fixtures.

Egypt qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will be looking to use the international window to maintain momentum and strengthen their squad ahead of future continental and international competitions.

Ghana, meanwhile, are also preparing for the next phase of their international programme after their participation at the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars qualified for the tournament after topping their qualifying group and subsequently reached the knockout stage in North America.

The proposed friendly would therefore offer Ghana an opportunity to test players and tactical approaches against another strong African opponent.

However, no agreement has yet been reached with Ghana, Tanzania or Rwanda, and the EFA is still weighing its options before confirming an opponent.

Egypt’s interest in facing one of the three nations also reflects the importance of using FIFA windows effectively, particularly as African teams prepare for the next cycle of continental competition.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, is scheduled to take place from 19 June to 17 July 2027, with qualification beginning in September 2026.

For Ghana, a potential meeting with Egypt would provide another high-profile test as the Black Stars begin building towards their next competitive assignments.

The identity of Egypt’s eventual opponent, as well as the venue and date of the proposed friendly, is expected to be confirmed once negotiations with the interested associations are concluded.
