Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal prepares his squad for the new Egyptian Premier League season

Zamalek are expected to settle three important matters before the start of the new Egyptian Premier League season, including the appointment of a sporting director following the departure of John Edward.

Media figure Gamal El-Ghandour revealed details of the issues facing the club, with discussions already taking place over the vacant sporting director position and technical decisions involving the first-team squad.

Sporting director decision nearing

Abdel Nasser Mohamed, Zamalek’s football director, has held several meetings with Hossam El-Zenaty, who is being considered for the sporting director role, according to El-Ghandour.

The discussions have focused on the club’s first-team structure, the team’s overall situation and financial matters relating to outstanding player payments.

El-Ghandour said the meetings covered the main details of the position and that the issue is expected to be resolved in the coming days.

The sporting director position became vacant after John Edward left his role, leaving Zamalek needing to determine who will take responsibility for the position as the new league campaign approaches.

Squad selection message

Attention has also turned to the players and their preparation for the opening stages of the league season.

El-Ghandour said Zamalek technical director Moataz Gamal met the squad after training before the team’s match against Al-Ittihad Alexandria.

During the meeting, Gamal called on the players to remain committed and not be discouraged if they were left out of the squad for the match.

The manager reportedly explained that selection for the opening league matches would be influenced by players’ physical condition.

Players told everyone will get a chance

Gamal also warned that a significant number of players could be left out of some early matches, while stressing that the season would provide opportunities for members of the squad to feature.

According to El-Ghandour, the Zamalek coach told his players that the campaign would be long and that everyone would have the chance to contribute.

The message was aimed at keeping the squad focused despite competition for places, particularly as Zamalek prepare to begin their league campaign.

The emphasis on physical readiness means players will need to maintain their fitness if they want to secure regular opportunities in the opening matches.

Young player receives promotion

Another decision concerns the promotion of young player Mohamed Hamad to the first team.

El-Ghandour revealed that Gamal had held a meeting with Hamad after being impressed by his performances and qualities.

The Zamalek coach reportedly praised the youngster’s tactical flexibility and speed and explained that he could be used in several positions across the attacking line.

Hamad was also encouraged to make the most of the opportunity presented to him as he moves closer to first-team football.

The decision represents another important development for Zamalek as the club prepares for the new season, with the coaching staff assessing both experienced players and younger options within the squad.

Three files before the new campaign

With the league season approaching, Zamalek therefore have several matters to settle.

The club must decide on its sporting director, while the technical staff continues to assess the squad ahead of the opening matches.

At the same time, the promotion of Hamad provides another option for the attacking department.

The sporting director discussions involving El-Zenaty are expected to reach a conclusion in the coming days.

For the players, Gamal’s message has been to remain ready, regardless of whether they feature immediately, while Hamad has been given an opportunity to demonstrate that he can contribute to the first team.

These decisions come as Zamalek prepare to begin another long league campaign, with competition for places expected to be strong from the opening matches.
