Al Hilal coach Laurențiu Reghecampf is confident ahead of his team’s crucial CAF Champions League Group C clash against MC Alger on Friday, a match that could potentially end Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena’s continental ambitions this season.
The Sudanese side leads the group with eight points, three clear of Sundowns and four ahead of both MC Alger and Saint-Eloi Lupopo, with two rounds of matches remaining.
A win would secure Al Hilal’s spot in the knockout stages, while a victory for Mokwena’s Sundowns could significantly enhance their chances, depending on the outcome of the Sundowns–Lupopo game.
Speaking to the media ahead of the encounter, Reghecampf emphasized his team’s readiness to take on the Algerian side on their home ground.
“I think we are ready. We came here to do our job. All of our players are ready for tomorrow’s game, and I hope we can play a good match,” Reghecampf told the media.
“My focus is on my team, not on what our opponents need from this game. We are prepared, as I said before.
“We are first in the group, and we know what we have to do. We like this challenge. We like your fans, your stadium, and your team. They play real football, and that’s something we try to do as well. For me, it’s a pleasure to be involved in games like this.
“In the end, the better team will win. We are very happy to play here and to experience the atmosphere,” added the former Esperance de Tunis mentor.
“In every game, you have to fight. You have to show things on the pitch. What we say here doesn’t really matter, what matters is what the players do on the field. From my side, I trust my players. I trust the way they play football, and I know their level.
“No matter what happens at the end of the game, we will do everything we can to win points. But this is football, anything can happen.”
Al Hilal will travel to Algeria looking to maintain their lead and edge closer to the knockout rounds, while Sundowns and MC Alger prepare for a tense showdown that could reshape the group standings.
