'He feels comfortable in Munich' – Bayern cautiously optimistic about the future of French-Guinean defender Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer says the club is ‘cautiously optimistic’ that Dayot Upamecano will commit to a new contract, despite reported Real Madrid interest.

The 27-year-old, who has Guinean heritage and represents France internationally, could leave Bayern after five years if he does not extend his current deal, which expires at season’s end.

From January 1st, Upamecano will be allowed to negotiate a pre-agreement with foreign clubs if he does not sign a renewal beforehand, raising the possibility of a summer exit.

Speaking to Abendzeitung, Hainer expressed confidence that Bayern can convince the centre-back to stay.

“We are in the process of speaking with Upamecano. I believe he feels comfortable in Munich,” he said.

The club president acknowledged the weight of the decision, emphasizing the player’s comfort and satisfaction at Bayern.

“It’s obviously an important decision for him as well. In principle, he likes it very much at Bayern. We would like to keep him,” Hainer added.

Upamecano has been a key figure in Bayern’s defence, combining pace, strength, and tactical intelligence, which has made him one of Europe’s top centre-backs over the past seasons.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, continue to monitor his situation, with the Spanish giants reportedly prepared to offer a significant contract to lure him to La Liga.

Bayern face a critical period in their negotiations, balancing the player’s desire for stability with his potential ambition for a new challenge abroad.

Hainer’s comments suggest optimism but stop short of guaranteeing Upamecano’s future, leaving the Bundesliga champions alert to developments over the coming months.

The defender’s next move will have major implications for Bayern’s defensive plans and could shape the club’s strategy in the upcoming transfer window.
