Mohamed Barakat banned for four matches as Egyptian league sanctions are announced

Mohamed Barakat, manager of El Sharqia Enppi, has been suspended for four matches and fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds after being found to have used abusive language towards the referee during the opening round of the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League season.

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association announced the disciplinary measures under the competition regulations, the offences and sanctions regulations, and the quality-control system for the 2026-27 campaign.

Barakat’s punishment was the most serious sanction issued after the first round of the first phase of the league. The association said the suspension followed his use of “obscene phrases” towards the match official.

A further fine was imposed on Al Ahly forward Ashraf Bencharki, who must pay 30,000 Egyptian pounds for failing to undertake a television interview after being named Man of the Match.

The penalties were distributed across four first-round fixtures.

Al Ahly v El Sharqia Enppi

Barakat has been handed a four-match ban and a 20,000 Egyptian pound fine for the comments directed at the referee, according to the description issued by the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association.

Bencharki was fined 30,000 Egyptian pounds after not completing the post-match television interview associated with his Man of the Match award.

Wadi Degla v ZED

Both Wadi Degla and ZED were fined 10,000 Egyptian pounds.

The association said each club was punished because its players arrived late on to the pitch before the start of the second half.

Abu Qir Fertilizers v National Bank of Egypt

Abu Qir Fertilizers were fined 10,000 Egyptian pounds for delaying their return to the pitch before the second half began.

Ceramica Cleopatra v El Qanah

El Qanah player Momen Ahmed has been suspended for two matches and fined 5,000 Egyptian pounds.

His punishment followed a red card for violent play.

The association also confirmed that Article 54 of the league regulations for the 2026-27 season would be applied. That article concerns cases involving yellow cards issued to members of coaching, administrative and medical staff, as well as players.

The sanctions cover the first round of the opening phase of the league and were issued in line with the regulations governing disciplinary offences and competition conduct.
