Tottenham close to £60m deal for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush

Tottenham are close to completing a deal to sign Omar Marmoush from Manchester City for about £60m, according to The Telegraph, with the club hoping to finalise the transfer in time for the Egypt international to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

Tottenham are understood to be keen to conclude the move quickly so Marmoush can be registered and available for their next Premier League fixture. Newcastle are Marmoush’s favourite opponents, with the forward having scored seven goals against them during his career.

Manchester City, however, want to complete their own move for Brazilian midfielder Alan Elias from Palmeiras before formally allowing Marmoush to leave, The Telegraph reports.

The proposed transfer would take Tottenham’s spending during the summer window to about £400m if it is completed. That total would come after the club confirmed the signing of Savinho on Tuesday.

Tottenham did not disclose the fee for Savinho, although reports have suggested the deal could be worth more than £75m.

Marmoush watched from the substitutes’ bench as Manchester City secured an exciting victory over Bournemouth on Sunday. Tottenham regard him as a key part of their plans to rebuild their attack under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The London club began their Premier League campaign with a disappointing 3-0 defeat by Brentford at home on Saturday. They will be looking to respond against Newcastle in their next league match, while also attempting to complete the paperwork that would make Marmoush eligible to feature.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. He has since made 62 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

During his time at Manchester City, Marmoush has won the FA Cup and the English League Cup. His potential move to Tottenham would bring an end to his spell at the club after less than two years.

Eintracht Frankfurt are also waiting for the transfer to be completed. The German club are due to receive 15% of the fee paid by Tottenham for Marmoush under the terms of his move to Manchester City.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Marmoush comes after a busy start to the summer transfer window, with the club seeking to strengthen their attacking options as part of De Zerbi’s rebuilding project. The proposed £60m agreement would make the Egypt forward one of the most significant additions to the squad and could give him the opportunity to face a side against whom he has enjoyed particular success.

The deal remains dependent on Manchester City completing their move for Alan Elias before Marmoush’s departure is officially sanctioned.
