French-Ivorian star Leny Yoro hails Amorim for clearing ‘bad energy’ from Man United squad

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has praised manager Ruben Amorim for restoring harmony to the dressing room by removing disruptive influences from the squad.

The French-Ivorian centre-back, who joined United from Lille in 2024, said the positive atmosphere created by Amorim has transformed the team’s morale and unity.

Yoro believes the manager’s strict standards have been crucial in building a group committed to the same goal.

“The character is really important, for the atmosphere of the team also. I think the club is doing well with this, to take only people who can bring good things to the team,” Yoro said.

“We don’t want any bad things in the team. It’s really important for us.”

Since Amorim’s arrival, Manchester United have shown renewed discipline and focus.

The Portuguese coach made several bold calls in the summer, isolating Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony from the first-team setup.

The so-called “bomb squad” has since been cleared out as Amorim looks to rebuild a cohesive unit.

Yoro, who turned down Real Madrid to move to Old Trafford, said he remains convinced that joining United was the right choice, despite the club’s struggles last season when they finished 15th and missed out on Europe.

“We cannot build something with bad energy or bad atmosphere or bad characters,” he added. “I think the club is doing well with this.”

United face Tottenham on Saturday in a rematch of last season’s Europa League final, which Spurs won.

But Amorim’s side enter this encounter in better form and with renewed confidence.
