Malian midfielder Sekou Kone is recovering after a worrying head injury in Manchester United U-21’s National League Cup clash against Tamworth.
Kone left the pitch to warm applause from both sets of supporters after a lengthy stoppage for medical attention.
“Sekou Kone is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks,” reported Steven Railston of the Manchester Evening News.
Kone went down following a heavy collision with a Tamworth player. Medics rushed onto the field, working for around 10 minutes before he was safely stretchered off. The referee called a halt to the match soon after, and it was later abandoned.
The young midfielder, a graduate of the JMG Academy, joined United on 30 August 2024. While he is yet to make his first-team debut, his pre-season performances caught the attention of fans and coaches alike.
For now, his health remains the main focus as the club and supporters await positive news from his hospital checks.
