Morocco complete perfect U15 World Cup group stage as Cameroon reach League A

Morocco finished the group stage of the U15 World Cup with five wins from five, while Cameroon also secured a place in League A. Senegal advanced to League B after a strong recovery, and Democratic Republic of the Congo will compete in League D.

The final two rounds of the group stage were completed on Thursday in Hovsan, Azerbaijan, confirming the positions of the four teams.

Morocco produced another emphatic performance, defeating Curacao 7-0 before beating Liberia 5-1. Those results followed earlier victories over the Philippines (2-0), Costa Rica (4-2) and Belize (6-0).

The Lionceaux de l’Atlas therefore ended Group F alone at the top, collecting all 15 points available. Their flawless record also earned them promotion to League A, leaving them still in contention to win the first edition of the tournament.

Cameroon also preserved their hopes of claiming the overall title after finishing as Group K winners.

The Lionceaux Indomptables began with a 3-0 victory over Senegal, then suffered a 2-1 defeat by India before recovering with a 1-6 win against Laos. They completed the group stage by beating Grenada 4-1 and Bahrain 2-0, results which moved them above India at the summit.

Cameroon finished ahead of Senegal on the head-to-head record. Senegal may have been left to regret their slow start after responding to their opening defeat with four consecutive victories.

Ousmane Diop’s side followed the loss to Cameroon by defeating Grenada 7-1, Bahrain 7-1 and Laos 9-0. Their final result was a 6-1 win against India, but it was not enough to take top spot in the group. Senegal will instead play in League B, joining Cote d’Ivoire, who had secured qualification for the same level earlier on Thursday.

Democratic Republic of the Congo also ended the group stage with two wins, beating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 and Nepal 4-0.

Those victories came after three successive defeats against El Salvador (2-3), Tunisia (3-1) and Brazil (0-3). The Leopardeaux’s best possible outcome is now a 97th-place finish in League D.
