The Ghana Football Federation (GFA) has officially named Stephen Frimpong Manso as the new head coach of the Black Starlets, Ghana’s under-17 national football team.
The appointment was confirmed on Thursday, and Manso’s wealth of experience in both playing and coaching is expected to significantly boost the future of youth football in Ghana.
Manso, a former iconic figure in Ghanaian football, brings a deep understanding of the game.
Having represented the Black Stars between 1986 and 1995, he became a staple in the national team’s defense with his tenacious playing style and tactical awareness.
His club career also boasts stints with Asante Kotoko and Al Shabab in Kuwait, where he further developed his footballing acumen.
After hanging up his boots, Manso transitioned seamlessly into coaching.
His managerial career includes roles at notable clubs such as Asante Kotoko, Medeama SC, and Stade d’Abidjan.
Most recently, he served as the head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars.
Manso’s experience also extends to national teams, having worked as assistant coach of the Black Meteors (Ghana’s U23 team) from 2006 to 2008, and previously coaching the Black Starlets between 2009 and 2010.
