Rennes reject Borussia Dortmund approach for Morocco defender Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal
French club Rennes have rejected an initial approach from Borussia Dortmund for Moroccan defender Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal, underlining their determination to keep one of the country’s brightest young prospects.
According to Africa Foot, Rennes dismissed Dortmund’s opening offer after judging it to be well below the 19-year-old’s market value and long-term potential.
The Ligue 1 side reportedly views the Morocco international as a central figure in its future defensive plans and is not willing to sanction his departure.
Impressive loan spell attracts European interest
Aït Boudlal strengthened his growing reputation during a successful loan spell with Amiens SC, where he made 21 appearances in Ligue 2 and the Coupe de France.
His consistent displays attracted attention from several clubs across Europe, with Borussia Dortmund emerging as one of his strongest admirers because of the Bundesliga club’s track record of developing young talent.
The defender’s physical presence, composure in possession and tactical awareness are understood to have impressed Rennes’ coaching staff.
Rennes plan bigger first-team role
Rather than cashing in on the teenager, Rennes are reportedly preparing to hand Aït Boudlal a more prominent role in the senior squad next season.
While Borussia Dortmund continue to monitor his situation, the French club has made it clear that the Moroccan defender is not available for transfer.
According to the report, Rennes would only be prepared to enter negotiations if they receive an exceptional offer that reflects both Aït Boudlal’s current ability and his considerable long-term potential.
