Mohamed Salah makes Trabzonspor history with landmark Super Lig double

Mohamed Salah marked his first start for Trabzonspor in the Super Lig with two goals as his side beat Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 at Papara Park to claim their first victory of the 2026-27 season.

The Egypt forward had made only a quiet substitute appearance in the draw against Kasımpasa, but he needed just eight minutes to open his Trabzonspor account in his first league start.

Salah capitalised on an error by Istanbul Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer before holding off the challenge of several defenders to put the home side in front. Istanbul Basaksehir restored parity through Eldor Shomurodov’s penalty, yet Salah remained the decisive figure in the match.

He struck again shortly after the interval to put Trabzonspor back ahead. Starting from the right wing, Salah exchanged passes with Ernest Muci before cutting inside and guiding a precise shot into the far corner.

Trabzonspor missed several opportunities to extend their advantage late on, but Salah’s second goal proved enough to secure all three points and give the club their first league win of the new campaign.

The performance also saw the 2026 summer signing reach a new landmark in Trabzonspor’s history. According to data from FotMob, Salah became only the third Egyptian player to score in the Super Lig for the club, following Ayman Abdelaziz and Trezeguet.

More significantly, he became the first foreign player in Trabzonspor’s history to score twice in a single match against Istanbul Basaksehir.

Salah was the most dangerous player on the pitch throughout the contest. He finished with five shots, four of them on target, and created six chances for his team-mates.

His display offered a marked contrast to his first appearance for the club, when he was unable to make a major impact after coming off the bench against Kasımpasa. On this occasion, he provided the goals that turned a competitive encounter in Trabzonspor’s favour.

The result gives Trabzonspor an important early boost in the 2026-27 Super Lig season, while Salah’s quick impact will increase attention around the Egyptian forward after his move to the Turkish club. His two finishes against Istanbul Basaksehir not only delivered victory but also placed him in the club’s record books during his first start.
