Trabzonspor eye move for Egypt midfielder Marwan Ateya of Al Ahly

Egyptian defensive midfielder Marwan Ateya of Al Ahly is being linked with a summer move to Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor as speculation grows over his future in Cairo.

The 27-year-old, valued at €4.00m on Transfermarkt, is reported to be on Trabzonspor’s radar as they look to reinforce the base of their midfield. The move remains at rumour stage, with the probability of a transfer currently listed as “?” and no agreement yet in place between the clubs.

Ateya, who plays as a defensive midfielder and wears the No 13 shirt for Al Ahly, has no publicly listed contract expiry date, fuelling suggestions he could either negotiate an exit or run down his deal before eventually becoming a free agent. Born on 1 August 1998 in Kafr El Dawwar, the 1.76m right-footer has established himself domestically in the Egyptian Premier League with the record champions.

The Egypt international’s most recent outing for Al Ahly came in the Egyptian Premier League earlier this month, when he featured in a narrow home win against league opposition, helping protect the back line in a tight scoreline and underlining the screening qualities that have drawn foreign interest.

Ateya’s career to date has been built entirely in Egypt, with Al Ahly his current club and primary platform, but a switch to Trabzonspor would offer a first taste of European club football in the Süper Lig. His single-nationality profile with Egypt and specialist role in defensive midfield fits the profile Turkish clubs often seek when balancing domestic and foreign-quota rules.

With his market value relatively modest by European standards at €4.00m, any deal could represent a calculated, low-risk investment for Trabzonspor. Should the transfer materialise, it would mark a significant step in Ateya’s career, offering a new stage on which to enhance his reputation and test his potential outside Egypt.
