Surprise exit clause could open door for Riyad Mahrez to leave Al Ahli
Fresh reports from Saudi Arabia have revealed the existence of a surprising clause in Riyad Mahrez’s contract that could pave the way for the Algerian star to leave Al Ahli during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mahrez joined the Saudi club in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City on a four-year deal that is set to expire at the end of next season.
According to Saudi outlet Al-Youm, the agreement contains a special clause allowing either party to terminate the contract between June 1 and June 30, 2026, for a fee of $15 million.
Expensive Conditions Outside the Agreed Window
The report added that if either Al Ahli or Mahrez decides to end the contract outside the specified period, the terminating party would be required to pay the remaining value of the deal, estimated at around $40 million.
The revelation comes amid increasing speculation surrounding the Algerian international’s future at the Saudi Pro League club.
Fenerbahce Linked With Algerian Star
Mahrez has recently been linked with a possible move away from Al Ahli, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce reportedly among the clubs interested in signing the experienced winger.
The former Manchester City star remains one of the most influential players in Al Ahli’s squad and has played a major role in the club’s recent successes.
Mahrez Remains Key Figure at Al Ahli
Since arriving in Saudi Arabia, Mahrez has established himself as one of the club’s standout performers, helping Al Ahli secure two AFC Champions League titles as well as the Saudi Super Cup.
His experience, creativity, and leadership have made him a central figure in the team, meaning any potential departure would represent a significant development for the Saudi side ahead of next season.
