An official at the Egyptian Football Association has dismissed reports suggesting that Zamalek SC formally requested foreign referees for their upcoming league fixture against Ceramica Cleopatra FC.

The controversy, which has gained traction across social media platforms in recent days, appears to lack any formal backing, according to the governing body.

In an exclusive statement to Yalla Kora, the source clarified that no official correspondence has been received from Zamalek regarding the appointment of foreign match officials.

“So far, the Football Association has not received any letter from Zamalek Club to bring in foreign referees for the match against Ceramica Cleopatra,” the source said.

The official further questioned the credibility of the reports, noting that the federation has no record or knowledge of such a request being submitted through official channels.

“We do not know the validity of Zamalek’s request for a foreign refereeing team against Ceramica, and there is no letter indicating this,” he added.

He stressed that the speculation appears to be driven purely by online discussions rather than any confirmed action by the club.

“Zamalek has not issued any official statement indicating that it has requested foreign referees, and the news is only circulating on social media,” he concluded.

Zamalek are set to face Ceramica Cleopatra on May 20 in what will be their final match of the current Egyptian Premier League season. The fixture is expected to draw significant attention, with the White Knights aiming to close their campaign on a strong note amid heightened scrutiny surrounding officiating standards in the league.
