Relebohile Mofokeng: Monaco eye Orlando Pirates’ South African winger in €3m move

South African left winger Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Monaco, with the 21-year-old’s future increasingly the subject of transfer speculation.

Reports on 18 June 2026 have placed the Betway Premiership attacker on Monaco’s radar, although the probability of the deal is currently listed only as “?” and there is no indication that talks are advanced. Mofokeng’s market value is estimated at €3.00m, a figure likely to be tested if the French club decide to formalise their interest.

Mofokeng, born in Sharpeville, Gauteng on 23 October 2004, has emerged as one of Orlando Pirates’ most eye-catching wide players, operating primarily as an attacking left winger but naturally right-footed. He wears the number 38 shirt for the Soweto giants and stands at 1.68m, relying on acceleration and close control rather than physicality.

Pirates’ rising star has been a regular feature in the Betway Premiership, with recent outings in the South African top flight helping to draw attention from overseas scouts. In his latest league appearance – a tight DStv Premiership encounter for Orlando Pirates earlier this month – he featured from the left flank in a match that underlined his capacity to stretch defences and commit full-backs in one‑v‑one situations, even though he did not get on the scoresheet.

Mofokeng’s contractual situation is unclear, with no publicly listed expiry date on his Orlando Pirates deal. That uncertainty has fuelled talk that he could become a free agent in the medium term if no extension is agreed, a scenario which would significantly alter any fee Monaco might have to pay.

For a player valued at €3.00m and already linked with a step up to a major European league, a move to Monaco – if it materialises – could be the defining transition that tests his potential, shapes his reputation beyond South Africa and sets the course for the next phase of his career.
