Real Madrid kept within six points of La Liga leaders Barcelona with a 4-1 victory over Sevilla, while Real Sociedad strengthened their position with a 5-2 win at Malaga.
Arda Guler put Real Madrid ahead at the Santiago Bernabeu after 30 minutes, lifting a superb finish into the net following good work by Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande.
Bellingham then produced a brilliant backheel seven minutes later to release Kylian Mbappe, who beat his marker with quick footwork before scoring from close range.
Mbappe added his second from the penalty spot after being fouled by Castrin, converting with a Panenka. Sevilla briefly threatened a comeback when Manuel Bueno took advantage of uncertain defending to score with a precise left-footed effort.
Diomande restored Real Madrid’s three-goal lead two minutes later with a powerful finish. The result was their sixth win in seven matches in all competitions, moved them above Real Betis into third place and extended their home winning run in La Liga to eight matches.
Jose Mourinho’s side now face Barcelona in next week’s El Clasico.
Sociedad end losing run in Andalusia
Real Sociedad claimed a fourth win in five league matches as they increased the pressure on struggling Malaga.
Takefusa Kubo opened the scoring in the third minute when his 20-yard shot took a deflection and looped into the top corner. Orri Oskarsson made it 2-0 after a fortunate ricochet allowed him to turn away from his marker and find the bottom corner.
Adrian Nino pulled one back for Malaga less than 10 minutes into the second half, finishing from close range after Pablo Martinez’s cut-back.
Kubo then created the third for Mikel Oyarzabal, who drove the ball beyond goalkeeper Alfonso Herrero. Martinez gave the hosts renewed hope with a spectacular half-volley into the top corner, but Oyarzabal scored again from 20 yards to complete his brace.
Goncalo Guedes added a fifth after Oskarsson’s attempt came back off the crossbar. The victory ended Real Sociedad’s four-match losing run in Andalusia.
Celta hold on against Alaves
Celta Vigo moved above Deportivo Alaves into seventh after a 2-1 win at the Estadio de Balaidos extended their unbeaten La Liga run to six matches.
After a quiet first half, Javier Rodriguez’s incisive pass sent Ferran Jutgla through eight minutes after the restart, and he finished low into the bottom-right corner.
Rodriguez doubled the lead in the 71st minute, beating three opponents before scoring from a difficult angle. Hugo Novoa Ramos reduced the deficit with a long-range effort that struck the bar and post before crossing the line.
Alaves applied late pressure, but Ionut Radu made two stoppage-time saves to secure Celta’s win and avoid another collapse against Alaves.
Osasuna end six-match winless streak
Osasuna beat Racing Santander 2-0 to end a six-match winless run, with Jagoba Arrasate celebrating three points on his return to El Sadar.
Jonathan Dubasin thought he had scored early on, but VAR ruled the effort out for offside. Jeanuel Belocian then fouled Ante Budimir in the ninth minute, and the Croatian converted the resulting penalty.
Racing created little, with Sergio Canales forcing only a routine save from Aitor Fernandez. Osasuna sealed the victory in the 88th minute when Asier Osambela scored after Julen Agirrezabala had saved Inigo Arguibide’s effort.
Osasuna rose to ninth, while Racing stayed 16th and extended their winless run to four matches.
