Phil Foden: Manchester City star signs new deal to 2030 as ‘boyhood dream’ continues

Manchester City forward Phil Foden has signed a new four-year contract that will keep the England international at the Etihad Stadium until 2030, the club has confirmed.

The 26-year-old, widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s standout players, has extended a glittering spell with his boyhood club that began when he joined City’s academy at the age of nine.

In a statement on their official website, Manchester City said: “Phil Foden has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.”

The club added: “The 26-year-old, a lifelong Manchester City supporter, will continue his association with the club which started when he was nine in our Academy.”

Since making his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in 2017, Foden has become one of the most decorated players in City’s history.

Foden has won 20 major trophies with Manchester City. His honours include six Premier League titles, five League Cups, three FA Cups, three Community Shields, one Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

The forward’s influence has been recognised with a series of individual awards. He was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, also collecting the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award and the Premier League Player of the Season prize.

In May 2026, Foden became only the sixth player to register 100 goal contributions in the Premier League for Manchester City, and one of just 20 players to score 100 goals for the club across its 132-year history.

‘Playing for this club is all I ever wanted’

Speaking to the club’s website after signing his new deal, Foden said he was continuing to live out his childhood ambition by playing for City.

He said: “My commitment to my future with City means everything to me.. playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear this shirt.”

Foden continued: “I know I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of an historic period where many trophies have been won, but we always look to the future and aim to win more.”

He added: “I can only thank the club, staff, my team-mates and the fans who continue to put their trust in me and believe that I will do my utmost for City, and I hope I can give back to you for years to come.”

Excitement over Enzo’s return

Foden also highlighted his eagerness to work again with Enzo, a member of City’s coaching staff during the club’s famous treble-winning campaign, who has now returned to the Etihad.

“I’m excited to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the treble-winning season – a person all the players respect and love working with. His return here is exciting,” Foden said.

Looking ahead to the next phase of his career, he added that the environment at City has helped elevate his game.

“Personally, I know I’ve improved a lot by working with our coaches and our world-class team, and with many of the legends who were here when I started my career now having left, I’m excited for the next stage of my journey at this great club,” he said.

Cornerstone of City’s future

Foden’s renewal underlines City’s intent to build their next era around the homegrown forward, who has moved from promising academy graduate to central figure in one of the most successful sides English football has seen.

With long-term security now agreed, club and player will look to add further chapters – and silverware – to a partnership that began nearly two decades ago on the academy pitches and now stretches towards 2030 at the summit of the European game.
