Tottenham secured their first Premier League victory of the season by beating Coventry City 3-1 at the conclusion of the seventh round.
James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies scored for Tottenham, while Jack Rudoni replied for the visitors.
The result ended Tottenham’s wait for a win after they became the only team in the division to go without one across the opening six matches, having drawn three and lost three.
It was also Tottenham’s first Premier League victory since May 2026, when they defeated Everton 1-0 last season.
Maddison ended a 610-day wait for a goal, having last scored against Manchester United in February 2025. Marmoush also found the net for the first time in 156 days, with his strike representing his first goal for Tottenham.
Tottenham moved up to 16th place with six points, leaving the bottom position. Coventry City dropped to 17th on goal difference.
Maddison starts as Marmoush returns
Marmoush returned to lead Tottenham’s attack after being named among the substitutes against Manchester United.
Maddison made his first start for Tottenham in more than 400 days, while Sweden international Dejan Kulusevski was included in the squad for the first time in 526 days.
Tottenham took the lead after 14 minutes when Maddison received a pass from Mohammed Kudus and fired into the net from outside the penalty area.
Five minutes later, Dominic Solanke appeared to have doubled the advantage, but his effort was ruled out for offside against Andrew Robertson.
There were no further chances of note before half-time, leaving the hosts with a narrow lead at the interval.
Coventry took advantage of uncertainty in the Tottenham defence four minutes after the restart. Rudoni sent in a cross which came back to him, before he struck the rebound into the net to make it 1-1 in the 49th minute.
Marmoush restored Tottenham’s advantage in the 58th minute with an impressive long-range effort from outside the penalty area.
Coventry became the eighth team Marmoush has scored against in the Premier League. He is also the third Egyptian to score for Tottenham, following Ahmed Hossam “Mido” and Hossam Ghaly.
Marmoush went off with an injury in the 87th minute and was replaced by Kulusevski, who received a strong ovation from the home supporters.
Tottenham confirmed the victory in the sixth minute of added time when Davies sent a low shot into the net after being set up by Solanke.
Tottenham will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next week, while Coventry City will host Fulham.
