Napoli hold Lazio to give Inter chance in Serie A title race

Napoli earned a 1-1 draw against Lazio on matchday 11 of Serie A, preventing Gennaro Gattuso’s side from extending its winning run and giving Inter an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.

Lazio took the lead in the 28th minute when Davide Frattesi found the net. Napoli responded shortly after half-time, with Alfonso Pedraza, a Lazio player, scoring the equaliser for the hosts.

The result ended Lazio’s run of six consecutive victories, although they remain unbeaten and continue to lead the standings. They now have 29 points, while Inter are second on 25 points with a game in hand.

Inter can move to within one point of Lazio if they beat Como today.

Despite dropping two points, Lazio’s draw formed part of a historic achievement for the two major clubs from the Italian capital. According to statistics provider Opta, this is the first time in Serie A history that two teams from the same city, Roma and Lazio, have both remained unbeaten through the opening 11 matches of a season.

Roma and Lazio have therefore made an exceptional start to the 2026-2027 campaign, under the management of Gattuso and Gian Piero Gasperini respectively.
