USM Alger set for financial reward

USM Alger are set to pocket $500,000 in prize money after overcoming Mamelodi Sundowns to clinch the CAF Super Cup title for the second time in their history.

The Algerian football powerhouse produced an impressive performance on Sunday afternoon to defeat the South African champions 3-1, adding another continental trophy to their collection.

USM Alger showcased their attacking quality and determination throughout the encounter, scoring three goals to overcome Sundowns and secure the prestigious title.

The Algerian side opened the scoring through Zakaria Draoui before Mamelodi Sundowns restored parity in the 25th minute, with Iqraam Rayners calmly converting from the penalty spot.

The North African outfit regained the lead nine minutes before half-time when Saadi Redouani reacted quickest after a header had come back off the crossbar to put his side 2-1 ahead.

Ahmed Khaldi then extended USM Alger’s advantage in the 55th minute with an excellent strike to put the Algerian side in a commanding position.

The triumph marks the second time USM Alger have won the CAF Super Cup, further strengthening their reputation as one of the established forces in African club football.

Beyond the sporting achievement, the victory also comes with a significant financial reward, with the Algerian club expected to pocket $500,000 for their success in the competition.

The prize money represents a major financial boost for USM Alger, providing additional resources as they continue their domestic and continental campaigns.

For Mamelodi Sundowns, however, the defeat represents a missed opportunity to add another continental honour to their trophy cabinet after falling short against the Algerian side.

USM Alger will now savour their Super Cup triumph before turning their attention to their next assignments, having once again demonstrated their ability to compete and win at the highest level of African club football.
