Suez Petrojet beat Delphi in Egypt Cup

Suez Petrojet have booked their place in the round of 16 of the 2026/27 Egypt Cup after recording a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Delphi following extra time on Sunday.

The Suez-based side produced a determined performance to overcome their opponents in a closely contested round-of-32 encounter, with both teams unable to find the back of the net during the regulation 90 minutes.

Despite their efforts to break the deadlock, neither side managed to make the most of their opportunities, as the match ended goalless, forcing the contest into an additional 30 minutes to determine which team would advance to the next stage of the competition.

With a place in the last 16 at stake, both teams returned for extra time knowing that a single goal could prove decisive in determining their Egypt Cup fate.

Suez Petrojet eventually found the breakthrough in the 100th minute through Badr Moussa, who delivered the crucial moment to put his side ahead after a difficult battle during normal time.

Moussa’s goal gave Suez Petrojet the advantage they had been searching for and placed additional pressure on Delphi, who were now forced to abandon their cautious approach and push forward in search of an equaliser.

The goal also provided Suez Petrojet with a significant confidence boost as they looked to capitalise on their advantage and secure qualification without allowing their opponents back into the contest.

Delphi attempted to respond but struggled to find a way past their opponents, who remained organised while looking for opportunities to extend their lead.

Their efforts eventually paid off in the 112th minute when Karim El Deeb found the back of the net to double Suez Petrojet’s advantage.

El Deeb’s strike effectively ended Delphi’s hopes of staging a comeback, giving Suez Petrojet a comfortable two-goal cushion with only a few minutes remaining in extra time.

The team maintained their advantage until the final whistle, completing a 2-0 victory and confirming their progression into the round of 16.

The result represents an important achievement for Suez Petrojet, who have now earned the opportunity to face one of Egyptian football’s biggest clubs in the next stage of the competition.

Following their triumph over Delphi, Suez Petrojet will now lock horns with Al Ahly in what promises to be an intriguing round-of-16 encounter.

The Egyptian giants had already secured their place in the last 16 after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over Al Sekka Al Hadid in their round-of-32 fixture on Saturday.

Al Ahly delivered a winning performance to overcome Al Sekka Al Hadid and maintain their ambitions of challenging for the Egypt Cup title this season.

Their victory ensured that they would progress to the next round, where they will now come up against a Suez Petrojet side that will be encouraged by Sunday’s impressive extra-time performance.

For Al Ahly, the upcoming fixture presents another opportunity to demonstrate their quality and move a step closer to the quarter-finals as they continue their pursuit of domestic silverware.

However, Suez Petrojet will approach the encounter with confidence after showing resilience and determination to overcome Delphi, particularly after managing to break down their opponents during extra time.

The upcoming meeting will therefore provide an important test for both teams, with Suez Petrojet hoping to produce another strong performance and Al Ahly aiming to avoid an early exit from the competition.

With a place in the quarter-finals on the line, attention will now turn to their round-of-16 showdown as the 2026/27 Egypt Cup continues.
