Munir El Haddadi: Morocco forward leaves Esteghlal to become a free agent
Morocco international Munir El Haddadi has left Esteghlal FC and is now a free agent after his contract with the Iranian club came to an end. The 30-year-old right winger, who also holds Spanish nationality, departs the Persian Gulf League side on 14 July 2026 and is currently without a club.
El Haddadi joined Esteghlal in September 2025 on a free transfer from Spanish outfit CD Leganes, adding top-level European experience to the Tehran club’s attack. His stint in Iran followed a long spell in La Liga, where he featured for Barcelona, Valencia, Alaves, Sevilla, Getafe, Las Palmas and Leganes.
Born in El Escorial in 1995, the left-footed attacker first broke through at Barcelona after progressing from their youth ranks to Barcelona B and then the first team. Standing at 1.77m, he made his name as a wide forward capable of operating across the front line but primarily from the right.
El Haddadi arrives on the open market with a decorated CV. He is a UEFA Champions League winner with Barcelona in 2014-15, a Europa League winner with Sevilla in 2019-20 and a three-time Spanish champion from his time at Camp Nou. His honours list also includes the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup titles.
Having most recently been valued at around €1.5m, the winger now awaits the next chapter of a career that has taken him from Barcelona’s academy to Esteghlal and back into free agency.
