Mohamed Salah: Egypt star and free agent linked with shock move to Besiktas
Mohamed Salah, the Egypt forward currently without a club after leaving Liverpool, is being linked with a surprise move to Turkish side Besiktas in the Super Lig. The 34-year-old right winger became a free agent on 1 July 2026 and is now weighing up his next step after a decorated spell at Anfield.
Besiktas are exploring the possibility of signing Salah on a free transfer as they look to add elite experience and proven end-product to their attack. Despite his age, Salahs market value is still listed at around 22m, underlining the scale of the opportunity for any club able to strike a deal with the two-time African Footballer of the Year.
Salahs departure from Liverpool ends a nine-year association that began when he joined the club from Roma in July 2017 for 42m. During that period he became one of the Premier Leagues most prolific forwards, scoring 193 goals and providing 95 assists in 328 appearances, and playing a central role in Liverpools Champions League triumph in 2018-19 and multiple league titles.
He remains a key figure for Egypt, starting every match at the 2026 World Cup and contributing one goal and two assists in five appearances. His recent club form has also stayed at a high level, with Salah scoring twice and assisting once in three FA Cup outings in the 2025-26 season.
While discussions are at a preliminary stage, Besiktas view the chance to recruit a player who once reached a peak valuation of 150m as a potentially transformative piece of business. For now, Salah remains unattached and free to negotiate with interested clubs as he assesses whether Istanbul could be the next chapter of his career.
