Mamadou Camara: Malian-French striker joins Montpellier from Laval in €400k deal
Malian-French forward Mamadou Camara has joined Montpellier from Stade Lavallois in a permanent transfer worth €400,000. The 25-year-old centre-forward has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club running until 30 June 2030.
Camara moves after a productive spell in Ligue 2, where he built a reputation as a reliable attacking option. Across his time in the division he has made 127 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists, underlining his experience at professional level in France. He also boasts a useful record in the Coupe de France, with three goals in nine games.
Born in Aubervilliers and standing at 1.89m, the right-footed striker has developed his game entirely in French football. Before joining Laval, he played for Quevilly Rouen, having arrived there on a free transfer from ESTAC Troyes B, where he progressed after spells with Troyes’ youth sides and Red Star’s academy teams.
Camara’s performances have seen his market value rise to €1.2m, and his move to Montpellier marks a step up following brief exposure to top-flight action, including appearances in Ligue 1 earlier in his career. He will now compete for a place in Montpellier’s attack over the next four seasons.
The deal sees Montpellier secure Camara’s services on a long-term basis, with the transfer from Laval completed for a €400,000 fee and the striker tied to the club until 2030.
