Mohamed Salah set for Trabzonspor debut in Turkish league opener

Mohamed Salah is expected to make his first appearance for Trabzonspor in their Turkish league opener against Kasımpasa on 15 August, according to reports in Turkey.

The Egypt international signed a two-year contract with the Turkish club as a free agent after leaving Liverpool. Turkish broadcaster HT SPOR reported that Salah’s current medical assessments are almost identical to those of the rest of the Trabzonspor squad.

That has raised the possibility of the forward being included in the matchday squad for the opening league fixture, although he will not feature in Saturday’s friendly against Goztepe.

Trabzonspor are due to play Goztepe on Saturday as part of an event marking the anniversary of former footballer Ismail Koybası. Salah was not named in the squad for that match.

The 34-year-old completed the formalities of his move to Trabzonspor on Thursday morning. The club said he would receive an annual salary of €10m, together with a €7m signing-on fee, taking his guaranteed financial package to €17m.

His contract also includes performance-related incentives covering his time with the club. Trabzonspor added that Salah would receive 20% of the income from official merchandise released in his name.

The published contract details also stated that the player’s agent would receive a commission of 5%.

Salah spent nine seasons with Liverpool before moving to Trabzonspor. During that period, he made 315 appearances for the Reds, scoring 257 goals and providing 120 assists.

His anticipated debut against Kasımpasa would therefore be his first competitive appearance since completing the move to Turkey. Trabzonspor are preparing for the start of the Turkish league season with Salah absent from their friendly squad, but the medical information reported by HT SPOR suggests he could be ready to join his new team for the opening round.

The club’s announcement of the agreement on Thursday confirmed the length of Salah’s contract and the principal financial terms of the deal. Additional bonuses linked to his performances and the merchandising arrangement form part of the overall agreement.

The report was published on Friday, 7 August 2026, with Trabzonspor’s friendly against Goztepe scheduled for the following day. The club’s first league match against Kasımpasa is set for 15 August, when Salah could begin his Trabzonspor career.
