EXCLUSIVE: Bubista set to be appointed as RS Berkane head coach on a two-year deal

Portuguese coach Pedro Leitão Brito, popularly known as Bubista, is set to be appointed as the new head coach of Moroccan giants RS Berkane after signing a two-year contract with the club.

The 55-year-old takes charge of one of Africa’s leading clubs following a remarkable spell with the Cape Verde national team, where he masterminded the country’s most successful period in international football.

Bubista arrives in Morocco after guiding Cape Verde to their first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup, a landmark achievement that elevated his reputation across the continent.

He further enhanced his credentials by leading the Blue Sharks to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in their historic tournament debut, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most respected coaches.

His appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for RS Berkane, who have been searching for a successor following the departure of Tunisian coach Mouine Chaabani.

The Moroccan side have turned to Bubista as they seek to maintain their domestic dominance and strengthen their ambitions in continental competitions.

The Portuguese tactician is expected to bring his disciplined tactical approach and experience of managing under pressure to Berkane, a club that has established itself among Africa’s elite in recent years through consistent performances in CAF inter-club competitions.

Bubista’s success with Cape Verde has been built on organisation, defensive solidity and the ability to maximise the potential of a relatively small player pool.

Those qualities were on full display during the 2026 World Cup, where Cape Verde exceeded expectations by reaching the knockout rounds in their maiden appearance on football’s biggest stage.

His achievements with the island nation have earned widespread recognition, making him one of the continent’s most sought-after coaches before agreeing to join the Moroccan outfit.

At RS Berkane, Bubista will now be tasked with building on the club’s recent successes while competing for major honours both domestically and in Africa.

Expectations will be high as the Moroccan giants look to challenge for league titles and make another deep run in CAF competitions under their new manager.

The two-year agreement gives Bubista the opportunity to establish a long-term project at Berkane, with supporters hopeful his winning pedigree and international experience can usher in another successful era for the club.
