Jimmy Mwanga: Ireland-South Africa striker leaves El Mahalla and becomes free agent
Ireland-South Africa centre-forward Jimmy Mwanga has left Egyptian Premier League side El Mahalla and is now a free agent after his contract with the club came to an end.
The 27-year-old, who was born in Johannesburg and is eligible for both Ireland and South Africa, departs the Egyptian top flight with an estimated market value of around €150,000. His exit from El Mahalla was completed on 16 July 2026, leaving the tall striker without a club as the new season approaches.
Mwanga, who stands at 1.91m and operates primarily as a central striker, had been part of El Mahalla’s attacking options in Egypt’s Premier League. His right-footed profile and physical presence gave the club an option through the middle, but he now moves on in search of the next step in his career.
The forward’s departure ends his spell in Egyptian football, where he had been plying his trade before becoming unattached. His availability on a free is likely to draw attention to his dual-nationality background and experience abroad.
Mwanga’s status as a free agent was formalised in mid-July, confirming his exit from El Mahalla and his move into the market without a club.
