FIFA has extended its programme aimed at compensating clubs for injuries suffered by players during international duty until December 31, 2026.

The decision replaces the previous plan, which was set to end with the current season.

Relief for Clubs Ahead of Busy International Calendar

The extension is expected to reassure clubs across Morocco and Europe, which have often expressed concern about losing key players to injuries during international breaks.

Official Communication Sent to Clubs

According to reports from the National Professional Football League, clubs were formally informed of the decision through FIFA correspondence, confirming updates to the existing compensation framework.

Coverage Includes Upcoming International Windows

The revised programme now covers international breaks scheduled for September, October, and November, in addition to the June window already included under the previous arrangement.

Conditions for Compensation

Under the rules, clubs are eligible for financial compensation if a player suffers a temporary total disability lasting more than 28 consecutive days while on official international duty.

Exclusions Under the Policy

However, the programme does not cover cases of death, permanent disability, or indirect costs such as certain medical expenses.

Clubs Urged to Follow Procedures

The National Professional Football League has urged clubs to carefully review the official circular and follow the required procedures when submitting compensation claims to FIFA.

World Cup Context Adds Pressure

The decision comes just months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a period expected to increase player workload and intensify concerns over injuries during international matches.
