Ismael Saibari set to return to PSV Eindhoven for Bayern Munich farewell

PSV Eindhoven will honour Ismael Saibari at the Philips Stadion on Sunday, when the Morocco international returns to the club after completing his record €55m move to Bayern Munich.

Saibari is expected to attend PSV’s home match against FC Groningen and take part in a lap of honour before or during the farewell ceremony. The planned tribute was reported on Wednesday by the Eindhovens Dagblad.

The midfielder will make his first appearance for Bayern in the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening. He will then travel to Eindhoven the following day to say goodbye to PSV, where he spent the past six years.

According to the Eindhoven-based newspaper, Saibari will officially receive a guard of honour at Sunday’s match. Such a ceremony is a long-standing tradition in Eindhoven for players who leave the club in significant transfers.

The 2026 move to Bayern Munich was completed for €55m, described as a record fee for Saibari. His departure brings an end to a spell at PSV that began in 2020, when he joined from Belgian club KRC Genk for €200,000.

PSV also negotiated a sell-on clause as part of that original agreement. That arrangement has enabled the club to earn approximately €5m from Saibari’s subsequent transfer.

During his time with PSV, Saibari made 142 official appearances. He scored 42 goals and provided 29 assists, establishing himself as an important member of the side before securing his move to Bayern Munich.

His final PSV appearance will therefore come in the form of a farewell rather than a competitive match. After the Super Cup meeting with Borussia Dortmund, Saibari is due to be present at the Philips Stadion as his former club begins life without him.

The weekend will offer the 2026 signing the opportunity to be recognised by PSV supporters before he continues his career in Germany. It will also mark the formal conclusion of his association with the Eindhoven club, which began with his arrival from KRC Genk and ended with a transfer worth 55 million euros.

For PSV, Sunday’s fixture against FC Groningen will combine the normal demands of the domestic season with a special occasion for one of the club’s recent former players. Saibari’s record transfer, his contribution of 42 goals and 29 assists, and the sell-on income generated by his move will all form part of the circumstances surrounding his return.
